Privacy policy

This site has no user accounts, sign-up forms, analytics or advertising. We only process your data in three cases: when you visit the site (your IP address passes through our provider, Cloudflare), when you email us and when you write to us using the contact form.

We do not sell or share your data, we do not build profiles and we do not make automated decisions about you.

What you type in the plug-in solar calculator is processed in your browser and is not sent anywhere.

If you answer “Was this guide helpful?” at the end of a guide, we only add one to the total for that answer: we keep nothing that identifies you.

The data controller is Marc Ferrer (postal address in the Legal notice). For anything about your data, write to [email protected].

Data

Your IP address, the browser you use, the page you request and the date and time.

Purpose

To send you the page, protect it from attacks and know which country you are visiting from, so we can show you the information for your country first. The country is inferred from your IP address on each visit and is not stored.

Legal basis

Our legitimate interest in serving the site securely (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Retention

We do not keep visit logs. Cloudflare processes this data under its own policy.

The site only stores three pieces of information in your browser, and only if you choose them: the country, light or dark mode, and the guides where you have already said whether they were helpful. They are explained under Cookies.

What we store

Only totals: how many times “Yes” and “No” were pressed on each guide each day and, if you choose a reason, how many times each reason was chosen. The reasons are fixed buttons, with no free text.

What we do not store

Not your IP address, your browser, cookies or any identifier. Your answer passes through Cloudflare like any visit (previous section), but we do not link it to you and it is not possible to know who answered what.

Purpose

To know which guides need improving.

Where and for how long

In a Cloudflare database hosted in the European Union. As the totals are not personal data, we keep them for as long as the site exists.

So that the buttons are not shown again on a guide you have already answered, your browser keeps a list of those guides. It is not sent anywhere; it is explained under Cookies.

Data

Your email address, your name if you include it and whatever you tell us.

Purpose

To reply to you and, if you point out a mistake, to correct it.

Legal basis

Our legitimate interest in replying to people who write to us (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Retention

12 months. After that we delete the email, unless the conversation is still ongoing.

Data

Your email address, your name if you give it, your message, the language of the page and the time it was sent. To limit abuse, we also keep a check value (a keyed hash) calculated from your IP address and the date, never the IP address itself.

Purpose

To reply to you, and to protect the form from spam and abuse (at most a few messages per connection and day).

Legal basis

Our legitimate interest in answering enquiries and in keeping the form free of abuse (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). If your message concerns a contract with us or steps before one, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

Retention

We store a copy of the message in a Cloudflare database in the European Union for 30 days and then delete it automatically. The check value from your IP address is deleted after two days at most. The message is also forwarded to our inbox by email; from then on, the same applies as when you email us (previous section).

Giving us your email address is necessary so that we can reply; your name is optional. If you prefer not to use the form, you can write to [email protected].

Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the site and serves it through its network. It stores the “Was this guide helpful?” totals and, for 30 days, the messages from the contact form, delivers those messages to our inbox by email and receives the emails you send us in order to forward them to our inbox. It processes the data on our behalf, under a data processing agreement. It is a US company certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which the European Commission considers adequate; the agreement also includes standard contractual clauses.

Google LLC (Gmail) hosts the inbox where we read those emails and the messages from the contact form. It is also a US company certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

We do not give your data to anyone else, unless the law requires us to.

We use Google Search Console to see how the site appears in Google, and we notify search engines of new pages through IndexNow. Neither receives any of your data through us: we only send IndexNow page addresses.

If you follow a link to another site, such as a shop or a manufacturer, that site processes your data under its own policy.

You can ask us to access your data, correct it, erase it, object to its use, restrict its use or receive it in a format you can take elsewhere (Articles 15 to 22 GDPR). Write to [email protected]: we will reply within one month at most.

If you think we have not handled your request properly, you can complain to the Spanish Data Protection Agency (aepd.es) or to the data protection authority of your country.

If we change what we do with data, for example by adding affiliate links, we will update this page and its date.
